Keith's Archive Korner1952 DID YOU KNOW? #1The club is situated on royal land and we pay rent to the Crown Commissioners. Every year we receive tickets to the Garter Procession at Windsor Castle usually held in June During the late sixties Sir George Bellew was a Vice President of the club and was on the building committee, he submitted a drawing of the outside structure of the club as we know it today. In 1952 Sir George was Garter King of Arms and read the declaration from the balcony of St.James Palace with full ancient pageantry , the accession of the Queen was publicly proclaimed round the realm. Sir George lived in Old Windsor at the Lodge on Crimp Hill, now part of Sir Elton John's estate, he was a frequent visitor to the club and was instrumental in inviting HRH the Duke of Edinburgh to the club in 1970 ( see club history), He attended the club's annual dinner dances that the committee arranged and always had a pocket full of sixpenny pieces for the club's one armed bandits. A true clubman at heart. DID YOU KNOW? #2 That the club once ran a Benefit Society for members use ? see below a picture of the card kindly loaned to us by Lucky Jack
Please note, we have now added a visitor's book and a Rogues Gallery to the site
